WOLTEMADE TO THE RESCUE! GERMANY SURVIVE BELFAST BATTLE AS NORTHERN IRELAND ROAR!

The Night Germany Had to Fight

It wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t easy — but it was enough.
Germany clung on for a nervy 1–0 win in Belfast as Nick Woltemade scored his first-ever international goal to save Julian Nagelsmann’s side from an embarrassing slip-up.

This should’ve been a routine night for the four-time world champions. Instead, it became a full-blown battle against a fearless Northern Ireland team who refused to roll over.

Where Was £116m Man Wirtz?

All eyes were on Florian Wirtz, the £116 million man. But under the bright Belfast lights, he looked lost.
The young star drifted through the game’s edges, missing his chance to shine — while Woltemade, Germany’s new hero, stepped up.

In the 14th minute, he bundled in David Raum’s corner, muscling through a crowd to poke the ball home. It wasn’t elegant — but it counted.

Ireland’s Brave Hearts

That goal didn’t break Northern Ireland. If anything, it fired them up.
Jamie Reid and Ali McCann went close before halftime, with the home fans roaring like it was a cup final.
Manager Michael O’Neill was livid after the final whistle, fuming about “ridiculous” stoppage time — but his players left with heads held high.

Belfast was bouncing. Germany were sweating.

Missed Chances and Nervy Moments

After the break, Germany had their moment to kill the game.
Karim Adeyemi, clean through after a slick pass from Wirtz, sent his shot agonisingly wide.
Moments later, Wirtz went down in the box looking for a penalty — but the referee wasn’t fooled.

Northern Ireland smelled blood. Long balls rained in, tackles flew, and the German defence panicked.
Even Serge Gnabry’s late effort couldn’t calm the nerves.

Nagelsmann’s Narrow Escape

Coach Julian Nagelsmann, who had angered Northern Ireland fans last month by calling them “long-ball merchants,” must’ve felt the irony.
His men were hanging on as Callum Marshall almost grabbed a shock equaliser late on.

When the whistle blew, Germany’s relief said it all. One goal. Three points. But plenty to fix.

Belfast Belief

For Northern Ireland, there was no victory — but there was pride.
They fought for every ball, rattled one of football’s biggest nations, and left the pitch to thunderous applause. For Germany, it’s another step toward the World Cup — but the warning signs are flashing bright red.
If they play like this in North America… can they really challenge the world again?
