Tottenham Captain Saves Point With Last-Second Bicycle Kick

Newcastle Control The First Half

Newcastle put Tottenham under constant pressure early on at St James’ Park. Harvey Barnes had dangerous moments on the wing, and Lewis Hall fired a shot wide. Nick Woltemade flicked a header over the bar, and teenager Lewis Miley twice tested the defence but could not beat goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario. The best chance came in the 35th minute when Joelinton hit a low strike that smashed against the far post. Spurs finally created something when Mohammed Kudus set up Lucas Bergvall, whose backheeled effort landed on the roof of the net.

Guimaraes Breaks Through

Bruno Guimaraes came on at half-time, and Newcastle immediately looked sharper. Barnes forced Vicario into a save, and Woltemade’s header from the rebound was cleared off the line by Kevin Danso. Spurs struggled to get forward while crosses and corners kept coming into their box. Jacob Murphy saw a shot blocked, and Tino Livramento’s powerful effort was stopped by Brennan Johnson. The pressure eventually told in the 71st minute when Anthony Gordon’s cross was cleared straight to Guimaraes, who buried a clean strike into the bottom corner.

Spurs Hit Back

Tottenham made a triple change, bringing on Mathys Tel, Richarlison, and Xavi Simons. The switch worked instantly. Kudus delivered a cross seven minutes after the goal, and Cristian Romero dived in to head the ball past Aaron Ramsdale to make it 1-1. St James’ Park reacted, and the match turned chaotic in the final 10 minutes.

Late Penalty Sparks More Drama

Newcastle won a penalty after Rodrigo Bentancur wrestled Dan Burn at a corner. The referee checked the monitor and awarded the spot-kick. Gordon stepped up in the 86th minute and confidently fired Newcastle back in front. It looked like a big win for the home side, but Tottenham still had one final chance.

Romero Scores A Stunning Equaliser

In the fifth minute of added time, a Tottenham corner was punched clear by Ramsdale, but the ball fell to Romero. The Spurs captain produced a brilliant overhead kick that bounced through a crowded box and into the bottom corner. It was his second equaliser of the match and saved Tottenham a point in dramatic fashion. The game finished 2-2 after a wild, emotional finish.
