Reed Stunner Denies Liverpool Late as Fulham Snatch Dramatic Draw

Last-gasp strike deals blow to Liverpool’s top-four hopes

Liverpool’s hopes of securing a top-four finish suffered a major setback as Harrison Reed struck a sensational stoppage-time equaliser to earn Fulham a dramatic 2-2 draw at Craven Cottage.

Seconds after Cody Gakpo appeared to have sealed victory for the champions, substitute Reed unleashed a stunning 30-yard effort into the top corner in the seventh minute of added time, capping a breathless finale.

It was a cruel ending for Arne Slot’s side, who had recovered from a flat first-half display and looked set to claim a vital win after goals from Florian Wirtz and Gakpo overturned Fulham’s opener.

Fulham strike first as Liverpool labour

Fulham took the lead after 17 minutes through former Liverpool academy player Harry Wilson. A ball out from the back by Jorge Cuenca was cleverly flicked on by Raúl Jiménez, sending Wilson racing clear before he finished confidently past Alisson.

An initial offside flag halted celebrations, but VAR confirmed Virgil van Dijk had played Wilson onside by the narrowest of margins.

Liverpool dominated possession but were blunt before the break, failing to register a single shot on target as Fulham’s back five remained compact and disciplined.

Liverpool improve after the break

Slot’s side showed more urgency after half-time. Gakpo had an early effort ruled out for offside, while Alexis Mac Allister headed against the bar from a corner as signs of improvement emerged.

The equaliser arrived just before the hour mark and again required VAR. Conor Bradley’s driving run into the box created the opening, and his perfectly weighted pass found Wirtz, who stayed level with Issa Diop before calmly sweeping home his second league goal.

Liverpool continued to push and thought they had won it in the fourth minute of stoppage time. Gakpo reacted quickest to bundle the ball over the line from close range, sparking celebrations among the travelling support.

Reed delivers stunning finale

Fulham refused to accept defeat. Deep into stoppage time, Reed picked up possession 30 yards from goal and unleashed an unstoppable strike into the top corner, leaving Alisson with no chance and Craven Cottage in disbelief.

The draw felt deserved for Fulham after a spirited display, while Liverpool were left frustrated once again by defensive lapses that could prove costly in the race for fourth.
