Messi’s Big Decision: One More World Cup or Walk Away on Top?
Day by Day, Dream by Dream
Lionel Messi isn’t done dreaming — but he’s also not rushing. The Inter Miami captain admitted he wants to defend Argentina’s World Cup title in 2026 but won’t commit until he’s sure his body can handle it. “Of course, I’d love to be there,” Messi said. “But only if I feel 100%. The World Cup is special, and I want to help my team, not hold it back.”
After lifting the trophy in Qatar, the idea of playing another World Cup still sparks excitement in the 38-year-old. Yet, Messi insists he’ll take things “day by day.” His decision will depend on how he feels after Inter Miami’s preseason next year — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Miami Magic and Golden Boots
Messi’s current form suggests there’s still plenty of magic left in those boots. The Argentine star has just wrapped up a stunning 2025 MLS campaign — 29 goals in 28 games, earning him the league’s Golden Boot. He’s also a finalist for the MVP award, aiming to become the first player in MLS history to win it twice in a row.
And it’s not just about goals. Since arriving in Miami in 2023, Messi has turned the Herons into genuine contenders. This season, he’s been the heart of their MLS, Leagues Cup, and international runs — and he’s loving every minute.
“I feel great, I’m happy here, and my family loves Miami,” Messi said. “That’s why signing a new deal until 2028 was easy. I’ll decide about the World Cup when the time comes — but for now, I’m enjoying every moment.”

The Road Ahead
Inter Miami are currently leading their playoff series against Nashville SC after a 3-1 win at Chase Stadium, with two goals from Messi. As the Herons push for their first MLS title, the football world watches and wonders — can Messi’s magic stretch all the way to 2026?
If it does, we might just see the greatest of all time on the world’s biggest stage one last time.
