Marseille Finally Break PSG Curse in Le Classique
Le Classique finally delivered for Marseille fans after years of waiting. Under the floodlights at the Vélodrome, Nayef Aguerd’s fifth-minute header was enough to topple Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 on Monday night, securing the club’s first home league win over their bitter rivals since 2011.
Early Strike, Early Shock
It all started with a cross from Mason Greenwood, curling dangerously into the box. PSG’s new keeper Lucas Chevalier rushed out but completely mistimed it, leaving Aguerd free to nod the ball into an open net. Marseille fans exploded with joy – and the champions were instantly on the back foot.

PSG Waste Their Chances
Despite controlling much of the game, PSG lacked the killer touch. Achraf Hakimi forced Gerónimo Rulli into a superb save, and Gonçalo Ramos somehow headed over from close range when it looked easier to score. Marseille held firm, their defence repelling everything thrown at them.
A Mixed Night for PSG
Back in Paris, Ousmane Dembélé picked up the Ballon d’Or while sidelined with injury, and Luis Enrique collected a Coach of the Year award. PSG were even crowned Men’s Club of the Year. But those celebrations felt distant as Marseille tore up the script.
Title Race Heats Up
The defeat knocked PSG off top spot, with Monaco now leading Ligue 1 on goals scored. Lyon and Strasbourg are right there too, all tied on 12 points. Marseille’s win launched them to sixth, suddenly back in the race.
