Guirassy ends drought as Dortmund cruise past Werder Bremen
Dortmund stay strong in title race
Borussia Dortmund claimed a comfortable 3-0 win over Werder Bremen at Signal Iduna Park, with Serhou Guirassy finally ending his Bundesliga goal drought. The striker scored for the first time in eight league matches to cap off a convincing night for Niko Kovać’s side.
The victory keeps Dortmund firmly in second place in the Bundesliga table and cuts the gap to leaders Bayern Munich to eight points. After a dramatic late draw away at Eintracht Frankfurt, Dortmund were keen to build momentum, and they delivered a composed and controlled performance.
Bremen start brightly but fall behind
Werder Bremen, playing their first match of the calendar year after weather-related postponements, began with confidence. Justin Njinmah tested Gregor Kobel early with a powerful effort, while Marco Grüll went close soon after with a shot just over the bar.
Despite Bremen’s positive start, Dortmund struck first in the 11th minute. Julian Ryerson delivered a precise corner from the left, and Nico Schlotterbeck rose unchallenged to head home from close range, giving the hosts a deserved lead.
Bremen nearly responded immediately when Njinmah was sent through on goal, but Kobel stood tall to deny the forward with a crucial save. After that moment, the game settled, with Dortmund managing the tempo and taking their narrow advantage into half-time.

Second-half control seals the win
Dortmund came out sharper after the break and created a series of chances through Fabio Silva and Maximilian Beier. The pressure finally told in the 76th minute when Marcel Sabitzer, on his 250th Bundesliga appearance, smashed home Beier’s cut-back to double the lead.
Any lingering doubt was removed seven minutes later. Substitute Serhou Guirassy reacted quickest after Jobe Bellingham charged down a clearance, calmly placing the ball into the bottom corner to make it 3-0.
The goal was a welcome moment for Guirassy and underlined Dortmund’s growing control. Werder had no way back, and the hosts comfortably saw out the closing stages to secure another clean sheet.
Schlotterbeck leads by example
Nico Schlotterbeck was outstanding at both ends of the pitch. Alongside his opening goal, he dominated defensively, winning more duels than any other Dortmund player and setting the tone with his composure on the ball.
It was a complete performance from Dortmund, one that strengthens their position near the top and keeps the pressure on Bayern Munich.
