Guirassy Double Turns the Tide as Dortmund Close Gap on Bayern

Serhou Guirassy struck twice in three second-half minutes as Borussia Dortmund overturned a dramatic deficit to beat Heidenheim 3-2, moving to within six points of Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich — despite the striker later missing a penalty.

Dortmund looked set to capitalise on Bayern’s slip-up against Hamburg, but were pushed to the limit by bottom-placed Heidenheim before Guirassy’s late heroics sealed a vital win at Signal Iduna Park.

Dortmund dominance brings late first-half breakthrough

The hosts controlled the early stages but struggled to turn possession into clear chances. Guirassy went closest inside the opening quarter-hour, first forcing a strong save from Diant Ramaj before rattling the crossbar with a rising finish after being slipped through by Julian Brandt.

The breakthrough finally arrived just before the break. From Yan Couto’s corner, Ramaj could only spill the ball into danger, allowing Waldemar Anton to react quickest and smash home from close range in the 44th minute.

Heidenheim stun Signal Iduna Park

Just as Dortmund looked set to go in ahead, Heidenheim struck back. Deep into first-half stoppage time, Julian Niehues scrambled the ball past Gregor Kobel to level the scores and silence the home crowd.

The visitors weren’t finished. Only three minutes after the restart, Niehues completed a stunning turnaround with a superb long-range effort that took a slight deflection on its way into the bottom corner.

Guirassy sparks Dortmund comeback

Heidenheim nearly extended their lead when Marvin Pieringer headed over from close range, and that miss proved costly.

In the 68th minute, Dortmund were handed a lifeline when Niklas Dorsch was penalised for handball following a VAR check. Guirassy stepped up and powered his penalty into the top corner, despite Ramaj getting a touch.

The equaliser transformed the atmosphere — and two minutes later Dortmund completed the comeback. A rapid counter-attack saw Maximilian Beier whip in a dangerous cross from the right, and Guirassy bundled the ball home via a deflection to make it 3-2.

Missed penalty adds late drama

Guirassy had the chance to seal a hat-trick in the 85th minute after being brought down by Tim Siersleben, but this time the Dortmund striker blazed his penalty over the crossbar.

The miss almost proved costly as Heidenheim pushed hard for an equaliser in stoppage time. Arijon Ibrahimović and Mikkel Kaufmann both passed up golden chances, but Dortmund held firm to secure a crucial three points.
