Germany stay top after Woltemade double
Germany finally break Luxembourg resistance
Germany had to stay patient but eventually secured an important win in their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. After a frustrating first half with missed chances and tight Luxembourg defending, the breakthrough came four minutes into the second half. Nick Woltemade reacted quickly inside the box and stabbed in Leroy Sane’s low cross to make it 1–0.

Woltemade continues strong form
The Newcastle striker struck again with just over 20 minutes left, finishing calmly after an excellent incisive pass from Ridle Baku. The double adds to Woltemade’s impressive momentum after scoring six goals in his debut season in England.
Germany stay in control of Group A
Florian Wirtz came close to adding a third late on, but Germany had to settle for a 2–0 win. They remain top of Group A on goal difference ahead of Slovakia. Both teams have already secured a top-two finish, but the automatic qualification spot is still at stake. The final showdown between Germany and Slovakia in Germany on 17 November will decide who finishes first.

Luxembourg show spirit but fall short
Luxembourg fought hard defensively, especially in the first half, but struggled to create clear chances of their own. Their resistance finally broke as Germany’s quality and tempo increased after half time.
