Four in a Row! Liverpool’s Worst League Run Strikes Back!
Liverpool’s Premier League nightmare deepened on Saturday as they fell 3–2 to Brentford, matching their worst-ever league run with a fourth consecutive defeat.
Just days after hammering Eintracht Frankfurt 5–1 in Europe, Arne Slot’s side were brought back down to earth in West London — punished for defensive lapses and missed chances that have defined their start to the season.
Nightmare Start in West London
The game had barely begun when Brentford struck. After only five minutes, Dango Ouattara pounced on a loose ball and fired home to give the hosts an early lead. Liverpool looked stunned — their defence caught cold once again.

Things went from bad to worse just before halftime. Kevin Schade doubled Brentford’s advantage in the 45th minute, finishing a swift move that left the Reds scrambling.
But just when it seemed Liverpool were out of it, Milos Kerkez gave them a lifeline with a crucial goal right before the break, sparking faint hopes of a comeback.
VAR Drama and Salah’s Late Effort
Those hopes didn’t last long. Midway through the second half, a VAR review awarded Brentford a penalty after a handball inside the box. Igor Thiago stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to make it 3–1.
Mohamed Salah, back in the starting XI after being rested midweek, reignited Liverpool’s fight with a sharp finish — his first Premier League goal since the opening day — to make it 3–2. But despite late pressure, Brentford held firm and celebrated one of their biggest wins of the season.

History Repeats Itself for Liverpool
This defeat means Liverpool have now lost four league games in a row — something that’s happened only three times before to defending Premier League champions.
Slot’s men join unwanted company alongside Liverpool’s 2020–21 side, Manchester City (2024–25), and Leicester City (2016–17), who lost five in a row.
To make matters worse, Liverpool have already matched their total number of league defeats from last season — and it’s only October. With star striker Alexander Isak sidelined through injury, Slot will need to find answers fast before the title race slips away completely.
