Dembélé double powers PSG to dominant Le Classique victory over Marseille
PSG run riot in statement five-goal win
Ousmane Dembélé scored twice as Paris Saint-Germain produced a commanding performance to defeat Marseille 5-0 in Le Classique at Parc des Princes.
PSG secured all three points with a ruthless attacking display, adding second-half goals through an own goal from Facundo Medina alongside strikes from Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Lee Kang-In. The victory keeps PSG top of Ligue 1, two points ahead of Lens, while Marseille drop out of the top three after Lyon’s win earlier in the weekend.
The result also strengthened PSG’s dominance in the rivalry this season following their Champions Trophy triumph, despite Marseille winning the reverse league fixture earlier in the campaign.
Dembélé brilliance puts PSG in full control
PSG started aggressively and nearly opened the scoring inside the opening minutes when Désiré Doué saw his effort blocked before Bradley Barcola fired narrowly wide.
The early pressure paid off in the 12th minute when Nuno Mendes found Dembélé inside the box, and the French forward finished emphatically to give the hosts the lead.
Marseille responded with several attacking attempts of their own. Amine Gouiri came close to equalising but was denied by PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov, while Mason Greenwood and Quinten Timber both saw promising efforts fail to find the target.
Dembélé doubled PSG’s advantage eight minutes before halftime with an outstanding individual goal, weaving past defenders before firing a powerful strike inside the near post. He nearly completed a first-half hat trick but dragged a late effort wide as PSG entered the break with a comfortable two-goal lead.
Second-half surge seals humiliating night for Marseille
PSG maintained their attacking momentum after halftime, with João Neves forcing a save from Jeffrey de Lange and Doué striking the woodwork.
Marseille briefly threatened through Igor Paixão, whose header was kept out by Safonov, but PSG quickly regained control. The hosts extended their lead in the 64th minute when Facundo Medina inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure.
Just two minutes later, PSG struck again as Dembélé provided an assist for Kvaratskhelia, who drilled a powerful finish into the bottom corner.
Substitute Lee Kang-In completed the scoring in the 74th minute with a composed low finish, wrapping up a dominant performance that underlined PSG’s title credentials and delivered a heavy blow to their historic rivals.
