Conference League Matchday 2: Shocks, Records and Big Nights Across Europe

Palace stunned at Selhurst

Crystal Palace’s home party turned into a shock defeat as AEK Larnaca left London with a 1–0 win. Palace hit the bar and missed good chances in the first half, but after the break Riad Bajić fired the visitors ahead. Larnaca’s keeper Zlatan Alomerović made a superb late save to keep the clean sheet. Palace were expected to celebrate their European home debut — instead they were left asking questions.

Džeko makes history in Austria

Fiorentina were clinical in Vienna, beating Rapid 3–0 — and Edin Džeko left his mark. The veteran scored in the win and added another memorable moment to his long career. The Viola looked sharp and took control early, leaving Rapid chasing shadows in a wet night.

Small clubs, huge nights

Some of the best stories came from smaller scenes. Gibraltar’s Lincoln Red Imps pulled off a famous 2–1 victory over Lech Poznań, a first-ever league-phase win in a major European campaign for the island side. Celje continued their hot start with a 2–0 win at Shamrock Rovers, while modest Hamrun lost narrowly to Lausanne Sports.

Big wins and tight draws

AEK Athens ripped Aberdeen apart with a stunning 6–0 rout — a real statement night in Greece. Elsewhere there were tight battles: AZ edged Slovan Bratislava, Sigma Olomouc and Raków shared the points in a 1–1 draw, and Breiðablik and KuPS played out a goalless stalemate. Samsunspor produced a big result too, beating Dynamo Kyiv 3–0.

Late drama and shared points

Several fixtures ended as tight contests — Drita and Omonia drew 1–1, Häcken and Rayo produced a 2–2 thriller, and Strasbourg took a 1–1 draw away to Jagiellonia. Legia fought back to beat Shakhtar 2–1 in a gritty away win, and Shkëndija upset Shelbourne 1–0.

Matchday 2 delivered a mix of shocks, statements and veteran moments — exactly the kind of drama the Conference League loves.
