Barcelona score for fun but this could be a Champions League disaster
Barcelona chasing consistency
The Champions League returns to Camp Nou as an attacking Barcelona host a struggling Eintracht Frankfurt. Barcelona are trying to find steady form in Europe. They are in mid-table of their group and have won only one of their last four Champions League matches. No team has conceded three or more goals in more Champions League games in 2025 than Barcelona, who have done it six times. Their last European outing ended in a 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
Since that loss, Hansi Flick’s team have looked much sharper in domestic competition. Barcelona have scored 11 goals in their last three league matches, including five in a wild 5-3 win over Real Betis at the weekend. They have also won all six home matches in all competitions since losing to PSG on matchday two. Camp Nou has become a place where Barcelona score freely, but defensive issues remain.
Frankfurt’s defensive nightmare
Eintracht Frankfurt arrive in Spain with major problems at the back. Their winless run now stands at three games after a 6-0 defeat to RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. Coach Dino Toppmöller called the performance “terrible,” and defensive mistakes are a regular theme this season. Frankfurt have conceded 44 goals in 20 matches in all competitions, including 13 across their three Champions League defeats. Two of those losses were by a 5-1 scoreline.
Frankfurt have won only one of their last six away games in all competitions, with three draws and two defeats. That record makes them a clear underdog at Camp Nou, especially against one of Europe’s highest-scoring home teams.
History points to danger for Barcelona
Frankfurt have never lost to Barcelona in their two previous meetings. They won 3-2 away and knocked Barcelona out of the Europa League in the semifinal in 2021-22. Frankfurt could become only the third club to win their first two away games against Barcelona in European competition.
Statistics suggest more goals could come. Eight of Barcelona’s 12 Champions League goals this season were scored after halftime. Both teams scored in seven of Barcelona’s last eight home matches. Ten of the last 12 goals Frankfurt conceded came in the second half.
Players to watch
Robert Lewandowski has a long history of success against Frankfurt with 15 goals in his last 15 matches against them, including two hat-tricks. Frankfurt may need Can Uzun, who returned to the bench last weekend. Three of his six goals this season came away from home, all between the 45th and 55th minute. Ronald Araújo is suspended for Barcelona, while Dani Olmo is injured. Frankfurt are missing Jonathan Burkardt and Michy Batshuayi.
BET TIP
Barcelona have too much quality in attack and Frankfurt can’t keep the ball out of their net. A home win looks the safest play.
