Arsenal Miss Chance to Pull Clear After Goalless Draw With Liverpool
Title rivals cancel each other out at the Emirates
Arsenal failed to fully capitalise on Manchester City’s latest stumble as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Liverpool in a tense Premier League clash at the Emirates. After City dropped points against Brighton, Mikel Arteta’s side had the chance to move eight points clear at the top, but were unable to find a breakthrough.
While the result still extends Arsenal’s lead to six points, it felt like a missed opportunity on a night that carried real significance in their bid to end a 22-year wait for the title.
Strong first half fades into second-half struggle
Arsenal controlled much of the opening 45 minutes and looked the more dangerous side. Bukayo Saka was a constant threat down the right, repeatedly troubling Milos Kerkez and later Alexis Mac Allister. His early effort was comfortably saved by Alisson, but the warning signs were there for Liverpool.
Despite being under pressure, Liverpool came closest to scoring before the break. A mix-up between William Saliba and David Raya allowed Conor Bradley a sight of goal, with the full-back’s audacious chip striking the crossbar.
Tempers briefly flared late in the half after Jeremie Frimpong went down in the box, but the game remained goalless at the interval with Arsenal firmly on top.

Liverpool take control as Arsenal lose momentum
The second half told a different story. Liverpool grew into the game, enjoying more possession and pinning Arsenal back for long spells. Dominik Szoboszlai went closest with a dangerous free kick that drifted just over the bar.
Arteta turned to his bench, introducing Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli, but Arsenal struggled to regain control or test Alisson in any meaningful way. Viktor Gyökeres’ difficult spell continued before he was withdrawn, while appeals for penalties at both ends were waved away by referee Anthony Taylor and VAR.
A point gained but a statement missed
Late half-chances for Jesus and Martinelli came to nothing, and Gabriel headed wide from a corner in the dying moments. As the final whistle blew, the sense remained that Arsenal had let a big opportunity slip.
The draw keeps them top and six points clear of City, with 17 games still to play, but this felt like an evening where Arsenal wanted to send a message. Instead, they settled for a point.
