Arsenal Drop Points as 10-Man Chelsea Hold On
Chelsea Start Fast in a Fierce Derby
Arsenal and Chelsea produced a heated London derby with strong tackles, constant arguments and early yellow cards. The game exploded in intensity right away, and Moisés Caicedo was sent off after a VAR check for a late tackle on Mikel Merino.
Arsenal were missing both William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhães, and their defense struggled. Chelsea made the pressure count early in the second half when Trevoh Chalobah glanced in Reece James’ corner to give the home team the lead.

Arsenal Fight Back but Can’t Finish the Job
Arsenal reacted well and equalised just 11 minutes later. Merino rose highest to head in and bring the score level. But even with a man advantage for more than half the match, Arsenal couldn’t find a winner.
Their attack never fully clicked, managing only eight shots and an xG of 1.18. Robert Sánchez made one big save late on, but Arsenal rarely felt dangerous. With Manchester City winning their game, Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table shrinks.
Why This Derby Still Feels Bigger
This Arsenal-Chelsea rivalry had everything: aggression, intensity, duels and real tension. Both clubs see themselves as London’s top team, and their recent success makes this fixture far bigger than Arsenal vs Tottenham in terms of trophies and ambition.
Chelsea, despite being reduced to 10 men, showed fight and energy. Arsenal showed character by coming back. Both teams left the pitch believing they’re genuine title contenders this season.
Chelsea Hurt by Another Red Card
Chelsea’s discipline problem returned at the worst time. The match began with chaos, with four yellow cards inside 27 minutes. But Caicedo’s late challenge on Merino changed everything.
Chelsea have now picked up seven red cards this season, including one for manager Enzo Maresca. Even though they battled hard after the sending off, playing with a man down made it much harder to grab all three points.
Arsenal Still Need More Up Front
Merino scored a key goal again, but Arsenal can’t rely on him long-term as their main attacking solution. Viktor Gyökeres is back from injury and was signed to bring more power and finishing to the front line. If Arsenal want to stay top and win the title, they need their true striker to start delivering regularly.
Merino works hard and pops up with important goals, but he isn’t as technical as the rest of the attack. Once Kai Havertz and Gyökeres are fully fit, Merino will likely return to a bench role.

Chelsea Still Don’t Have a True No. 9
Chelsea spent heavily on João Pedro and Liam Delap, hoping one of them would become the next big Chelsea striker. But neither has produced consistently.
João Pedro scored early in the season but struggled badly in this match. He missed a big chance after a mistake from Piero Hincapié and didn’t trouble Arsenal’s weakened defence. Delap also looked off the pace after coming off the bench.
Chelsea score plenty as a team, but without a reliable striker they will struggle to win the league.
