Amad Lights It Up but Chaos Follows as AFCON Giants Cancel Each Other Out
Amad Strikes Again as Ivory Coast Miss Chance to Seal Progress
Africa Cup of Nations holders Ivory Coast were left frustrated after being held to a 1-1 draw by a resilient Cameroon in Marrakesh, a result that keeps both sides firmly on course for the knockout stages but satisfied neither.
Fresh from scoring the winner in their opener, Amad once again proved decisive, curling home a stunning second-half opener to put the Elephants in control. But defensive hesitation and a cruel deflection ensured Cameroon hit back almost immediately, denying the champions a statement win.
Cameroon Hang Tough in a Tense First Half
The opening period was edgy and physical, with Cameroon showing early intent and forcing Ivory Coast onto the back foot. Christian Kofane rattled the crossbar after being picked out inside the box, a warning sign that the Indomitable Lions were not here to admire reputations.
Ivory Coast gradually grew into the contest, with Amad beginning to dictate play. He teed up Vakoun Bayo for a close-range header that flew over, before forcing a corner as pressure mounted late in the half.

Amad Delivers – Then Disaster Strikes
The breakthrough arrived seven minutes after the restart. Collecting the ball on the right flank, Amad cut inside onto his favoured foot and unleashed a curling strike that left Devis Epassy rooted, sending the Ivorian fans into raptures.
But celebrations barely had time to fade. Cameroon responded just three minutes later when Junior Tchamadeu’s effort took a wicked deflection off Ghislain Konan, looping helplessly over Yahia Fofana to restore parity.
Late Push, No Winner
Both sides pushed for a winner in an increasingly frantic finale. Cameroon arguably looked the more dangerous, while Ivory Coast turned to Wilfried Zaha for inspiration, searching for a late spark.
Despite half-chances at both ends, neither side could find a decisive blow. The draw leaves Ivory Coast and Cameroon level at the top of their group and on track for the Last 16, but with questions lingering about control, composure, and defensive solidity.
For Amad, the tournament momentum continues. For everyone else, the tension is only just beginning.
