Sesko rescues Manchester United with dramatic stoppage-time equaliser at West Ham
Late United strike ends Carrick winning streak but extends unbeaten momentum
Benjamin Sesko scored deep into stoppage time to earn Manchester United a dramatic 1-1 draw against West Ham, denying the hosts a crucial victory in their battle to avoid relegation.
United’s late equaliser halted their five-match winning push under interim boss Michael Carrick but maintained their strong run of form as they continue chasing Champions League qualification.
Soucek goal puts West Ham on course for vital win
West Ham started confidently and carried their strong recent momentum into the match, pressing United early and creating several chances.
Crysencio Summerville, who has been in outstanding form recently, caused problems down the wing and nearly created the opener with a dangerous cross for Jarrod Bowen, whose header drifted wide.
The hosts eventually found their breakthrough shortly after halftime. Bowen capitalised on defensive hesitation from Luke Shaw, forcing an error before delivering a low cross into the box. Tomás Soucek timed his run perfectly and calmly finished to put West Ham ahead.

United frustrated before Sesko’s late heroics
Manchester United struggled to break through a disciplined West Ham defence for large parts of the contest. They came close when Luke Shaw saw his goal-bound effort cleared off the line by former teammate Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The visitors thought they had equalised later in the second half when Casemiro powered home a header from Kobbie Mainoo’s cross, but the goal was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
With time running out and West Ham appearing set for a crucial victory, United found a moment of brilliance in stoppage time. Bryan Mbeumo delivered a precise cross into the penalty area, and Sesko produced a stunning volley to rescue a point.
Mixed emotions as both sides fight for season targets
While the draw ended Carrick’s winning streak, it still keeps United firmly in the race for a top-four finish and Champions League return.
For West Ham, the late equaliser was a painful setback. The Hammers had been on course for three valuable points that would have boosted their survival hopes and lifted them level with teams just outside the relegation zone.
