Juventus Crush Napoli to Deal Title Defence Huge Blow
David, Yildiz and Kostic seal dominant home win
Juventus delivered a major setback to Napoli’s Serie A title defence with a commanding 3–0 victory at the Allianz Stadium, extending their unbeaten home record in all competitions this season.
Jonathan David opened the scoring before half-time and, after a disciplined defensive display, Juve wrapped up the win late on through goals from Kenan Yildiz and Filip Kostic. The result left Napoli nine points adrift of leaders Inter and denied them the chance to move level with second-placed AC Milan.
Juventus came into the match full of confidence and made a fast start. Weston McKennie missed a gilt-edged opportunity when he headed Andrea Cambiaso’s cross wide, while Khéphren Thuram struck the woodwork with a powerful first-half drive.
Juve control the contest
Napoli responded with a spell of pressure, forcing Michele Di Gregorio into an excellent save from Antonio Vergara before Rasmus Højlund saw an effort blocked. Despite those moments, it was Juventus who struck first in the 22nd minute.
A superb defence-splitting pass from Manuel Locatelli released David through on goal, and the Canada forward kept his composure to drill a low finish into the bottom corner.
Juventus pushed for a second before the break, with Locatelli again at the heart of the action as he danced past two defenders and tested Alex Meret, while Thuram saw another goalbound effort diverted behind.
Napoli searched patiently for an equaliser early in the second half, with Højlund flashing a shot just wide, but clear chances were scarce as Juve worked relentlessly to disrupt their rhythm.
Late goals seal emphatic win
The hosts took firm control with 13 minutes remaining. Fabio Miretti slipped a neat pass into the area for Yildiz, who guided a low finish past Meret to double Juventus’ advantage.
From that moment, Juve played with growing confidence and put the result beyond doubt four minutes from time when Kostic rifled a low strike from the edge of the box into the corner.
Romelu Lukaku fired wide in stoppage time as Napoli suffered a first defeat in 10 games in all competitions, while their winless run away to Juventus stretched to seven matches.
