Late Adli Winner Sinks Liverpool as Bournemouth Stun Title Holders

Liverpool suffer another damaging blow

Liverpool’s faltering Premier League title defence took another hit as Amine Adli struck deep into stoppage time to earn Bournemouth a dramatic 3–2 victory at the Vitality Stadium. The Reds looked set for a fifth straight league draw before Adli scrambled home with virtually the final kick on a wild, weather-hit afternoon.

Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai had twice dragged Liverpool level after goals from Evanilson and Álex Jiménez, but Arne Slot’s side were ultimately punished for defensive lapses and missed opportunities. The defeat leaves Liverpool fourth, 14 points behind leaders Arsenal, and vulnerable to dropping out of the Champions League places.

For Bournemouth, the result lifts them to 13th and ten points clear of the relegation zone, capping a memorable night in Dorset.

Bournemouth punish Liverpool mistakes

Liverpool started brightly but were undone by Bournemouth’s ruthlessness. Van Dijk failed to deal with a long ball from Marcos Senesi, allowing Alex Scott to cut the ball back for Evanilson to fire home in the 27th minute.

Moments later, Liverpool suffered another blow when Joe Gomez was forced off injured after colliding with Alisson. With the Reds temporarily down to ten men, Bournemouth struck again. James Hill split the defence with a precise pass, sending Jiménez through to finish confidently through Alisson’s legs.

Liverpool pushed for a response and found one just before the break when Van Dijk atoned for earlier errors by bundling in Szoboszlai’s corner to make it 2–1 at half-time.

Fightback falls short in chaotic finale

The second half was largely played in Bournemouth territory, but Liverpool struggled to create clear chances despite dominating possession. Bournemouth remained dangerous on the counter, and Evanilson wasted a golden opportunity when clean through.

With ten minutes remaining, Liverpool finally drew level as Szoboszlai lashed a fierce free kick into the bottom corner after Mohamed Salah rolled the ball into his path.

A frantic finish followed. Djordje Petrovic produced a fine save to deny Florian Wirtz, while Alisson kept Liverpool alive at the other end. But in the fifth minute of added time, Hill’s long throw caused chaos in the box, and Adli reacted quickest to force the ball over the line.

Wild celebrations erupted as Bournemouth sealed a famous win, while Liverpool were left to reflect on another costly setback.
