Casemiro to leave Manchester United at end of season

United confirm Brazilian midfielder’s departure after three years

Casemiro will leave Manchester United when his contract expires at the end of the season, the club have confirmed.

The Brazilian midfielder, who joined from Real Madrid in 2022, will depart on a free transfer after United opted not to trigger a one-year extension in his deal.

The 33-year-old has made 146 appearances for the club since his £60 million move from the Bernabeu, scoring 21 goals and playing a key role during his time at Old Trafford.

Casemiro: “I will carry Manchester United with me”

Casemiro insisted his focus remains firmly on the remainder of the campaign despite the announcement.

“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” he said.

“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.

“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”

Early announcement brings clarity

Sources have told that it was Casemiro’s decision to announce his departure four months early in order to provide clarity over his future.

Despite his exit being confirmed, the midfielder is keen to continue playing at the highest level and hopes to remain in one of Europe’s top five leagues next season. He has also attracted interest from Saudi Arabia in the past.

United planning for summer rebuild

Casemiro’s departure will free up significant room in United’s wage bill, with sources close to the club stating the move will create “additional capacity” to strengthen the squad this summer.

Midfield is expected to be a priority area, with Elliot Anderson, Adam Wharton and Carlos Baleba among the players under consideration ahead of the transfer window.
