PSG Win Trophée des Champions After Penalty Drama Against Marseille
Late comeback and shootout heartbreak in Kuwait
Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Trophée des Champions after a dramatic 4-1 penalty shootout victory over Marseille, following a chaotic 2-2 draw in normal time at the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait.
Ousmane Dembélé gave PSG an early lead, but Marseille fought back strongly through a Mason Greenwood penalty and a late own goal from Willian Pacho. Just when Marseille appeared to be on course for a long-awaited trophy, Gonçalo Ramos struck deep into stoppage time to force penalties, where PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier proved decisive.

PSG strike first but Marseille grow into the game
Marseille started brightly and could have taken the lead when Leonardo Balerdi’s header was tipped away by Chevalier. PSG, however, capitalised on a mistake at the back to open the scoring.
A loose pass from Gerónimo Rulli sparked the move, with Vitinha feeding Dembélé on the edge of the area. The winger showed composure to lift his shot over the goalkeeper and put PSG ahead.
Marseille responded well. Greenwood fired over after cutting inside, while Chevalier was required again to deny Emerson from close range before Timothy Weah narrowly missed with a long-range effort.
Greenwood levels before late chaos
Chevalier continued to keep PSG in front early in the second half with sharp saves from Amine Gouiri and Igor Paixão. At the other end, João Neves and Désiré Doué went close as PSG briefly regained control.
The turning point came in the 76th minute when Greenwood was brought down by Chevalier after racing through the middle. The former Manchester United forward converted the penalty confidently to level the match.
Marseille completed the turnaround with three minutes remaining when Hamed Traoré’s cross was turned into his own net by Willian Pacho under pressure from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Ramos rescue and Chevalier heroics
Just as Marseille sensed a historic win, PSG struck back. A rapid counter-attack in stoppage time ended with Bradley Barcola knocking the ball down for Gonçalo Ramos, who volleyed home to make it 2-2.
The momentum swung decisively in PSG’s favour in the shootout. Chevalier saved Marseille’s first two penalties from Matt O’Riley and Traoré, immediately putting his side in control.
After PSG converted their opening three spot-kicks, Amir Murillo briefly kept Marseille alive, but Doué stepped up to score the decisive penalty and seal another trophy for the French champions.
Familiar outcome despite Marseille heartbreak
The defeat was a cruel blow for Marseille, who were left devastated after missing out on what would have been their first trophy in 14 years. For PSG, it was a familiar story, as they claimed their 12th Trophée des Champions title in the last 13 editions.
Once again, when the pressure peaked, PSG found a way to win.
