Red Cards, Chaos and Liverpool Pressure Spurs Into Collapse
Spurs Chaos Turns the Game
Liverpool extended their winning run with a dramatic 2-1 victory over Tottenham in a wild Premier League clash that was shaped by discipline as much as quality. The final score did not reflect the chaos, controversy and tension that unfolded in north London.
The game turned after 33 minutes when Tottenham midfielder Xavi Simons was sent off for a reckless studs-up challenge on Virgil van Dijk. Initially shown a yellow card, VAR intervened and upgraded the decision to red, leaving Spurs with 10 men and shifting momentum firmly toward Liverpool.
Liverpool Take Control After the Break
Despite their numerical advantage, Liverpool were held at bay before half-time thanks to solid defending and a sharp save from Guglielmo Vicario. Arne Slot made his move at the break, introducing Alexander Isak, and the change paid off quickly.
In the 56th minute, Spurs captain Cristian Romero made a costly error when his pass struck Alexis Mac Allister. Liverpool broke at speed, Florian Wirtz fed Isak, and the striker drilled home calmly to give the visitors the lead.
Isak was forced off shortly after through injury, but Liverpool did not lose control. Hugo Ekitike, again leading the line, continued to trouble Tottenham’s backline.

Ekitike Delivers as Pressure Mounts
Liverpool doubled their advantage in the 66th minute when Ekitike rose above Romero to head home from Jeremie Frimpong’s deflected cross. Tottenham protested for a foul, but the goal stood and Liverpool appeared on course for a comfortable win.
Spurs refused to fold. Thomas Frank threw on attacking substitutes and the pressure finally told when Richarlison pulled one back in the 83rd minute from a corner, setting up a tense finish.
Late Red Card Ends Spurs Resistance
Any hope of a comeback disappeared in stoppage time when Romero completely lost his composure, kicking Ibrahima Konaté after being beaten. The referee had no hesitation in showing a second red card, leaving Tottenham with nine men.
Liverpool saw out the closing moments to claim a third straight league win. For Spurs, it was another damaging home defeat, marked by indiscipline and frustration, while Liverpool continued to quietly build momentum under Slot.
