Ferguson Says United Could Wait a Decade for Premier League Glory Amorim Disagrees

Manchester United legends and current manager clash over the timeline to silverware

Sir Alex Ferguson has stunned Manchester United fans by suggesting it could take another 10 or 11 years for the club to lift a Premier League title. Reflecting on his early years, Ferguson compared the current situation to Liverpool’s 1990s drought, emphasizing the challenge of competing at the top.

Ruben Amorim, United’s current manager, was quick to disagree. “He understands football more than me, especially English football,” Amorim said. “We will not take that long to win a league, though I don’t know which manager will be here then.”

Addressing Entitlement

Amorim also called out a sense of entitlement among some players. Recent incidents involving youth players Harry Amass and Chido Obi, who posted social media updates contradicting the manager’s comments about their form, highlighted tensions in the squad.

“The players sometimes forget what it means to play for Manchester United,” Amorim said. “We have to fight against this feeling… my door is open, nobody is coming to talk to me, and that is the way we can solve things.”

The Kobbie Mainoo Issue

Amorim addressed the drama around 20-year-old Kobbie Mainoo, whose half-brother wore a “Free Kobbie Mainoo” T-shirt during United’s 4-4 draw with Bournemouth. He made it clear this would not affect Kobbie’s playing time.

“It was not Kobbie that wore the T-shirt… He is going to play if he is the right player to play,” Amorim said. “He played really well when coming on versus Bournemouth, and that is the important thing.”

Building a Winning Culture

Amorim’s comments reveal a manager focused on discipline, culture, and long-term success. With key players like Bruno Fernandes reportedly questioning squad dynamics, the current leadership is determined to establish a winning mentality and prevent entitlement from derailing progress.

Ferguson’s prediction has stirred debate, but Amorim insists: United’s path to glory depends on now, not waiting another decade.
