Man United face the worst team in the league but still might blow it
Wolves stuck at the bottom
Manchester United have another chance to climb the Premier League table, and this time they face the worst side in the competition. Wolves are bottom after 14 matches with just two points, the lowest total at this stage of a Premier League season. They lost 1-0 to Nottingham Forest in midweek, their seventh league defeat in a row and fifth straight match without scoring. New manager Rob Edwards admitted his players were “passive” and “scared,” which only increased frustration among fans at Molineux.
Wolves have also struggled in Monday night fixtures. They have won just one of their last 10 Premier League matches played on a Monday, collecting two draws and suffering seven defeats. History and form do not give the home side much confidence.

United’s missed opportunities
Manchester United have dropped valuable points at home, losing 1-0 to Everton and drawing 1-1 with West Ham. Those five lost points would have put them closer to the top three, and the performances were disappointing. Supporters booed during the West Ham draw as Ruben Amorim’s team failed to show energy or control. United have won only once in their last five league matches, with three draws and one defeat.
There is one positive sign: Manchester United have been better away from Old Trafford. They are unbeaten in their last four away league games, with two wins and two draws. It is their longest away unbeaten run since the 2021–22 season.
Head-to-head history
Wolves beat United twice last season, matching their total number of wins from the previous 14 league meetings between the clubs. United have not lost back-to-back league games at Molineux since 1980, and avoiding that unwanted record will be a priority.
Statistics offer more context. Three of Wolves’ last four home league defeats were by a single goal. Five of their six home league goals this season were scored in the first half. United, however, have not kept a clean sheet in their last 12 away league matches, conceding 24 goals in that run. And when scoring first this season, United have failed to win four of nine matches.
Players to watch
Former United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone has been busy for Wolves with 39 saves in 12 matches. Forward Matheus Cunha will try to trouble his old teammate, having been involved in 11 goals in his last 12 league games at Molineux. João Gomes is suspended for Wolves. United have fitness doubts over defenders Diogo Dalot and Matthijs de Ligt.
