Buendía Scores Dramatic Winner as Aston Villa Shock Arsenal

Last-Minute Drama Changes the Title Race

Emiliano Buendía scored with the final kick of the game to give Aston Villa a stunning 2–1 win over Premier League leaders Arsenal. His goal came in the fifth minute of added time and ended Arsenal’s 11-match unbeaten run in the league.

The result blows the title race wide open and cuts Arsenal’s lead at the top to just three points.

Villa Deserved the Win

Unai Emery’s team have now won nine of their last ten league matches and have made themselves serious contenders for the title. Villa pressed Arsenal from the very start and created several clear chances in the opening stages.

Goalkeeper David Raya kept Arsenal in the game when he denied Ollie Watkins early on, and later Declan Rice made a crucial block to keep out Matty Cash.

First-Half Breakthrough

Villa finally made their pressure count in the 36th minute. Pau Torres sent in a cross that deflected off Jurriën Timber, and Matty Cash reacted quickly, taking advantage of Eberechi Eze switching off at the back post. He hammered the ball in to give Villa a deserved 1–0 lead at half-time.

Arsenal Fight Back

Arsenal responded after the break. Leandro Trossard came on at half-time and immediately made the difference. After missing one chance, he scored in the 52nd minute when Emiliano Martínez could only push Bukayo Saka’s cross into his path. Trossard finished confidently to make it 1–1.

The visitors continued to threaten, and Martínez had to make a fingertip save to keep out a long-range shot from Martin Ødegaard.

Villa Refuse to Settle

Despite Arsenal’s strong spell, Villa kept believing. Watkins forced another good save from Raya, and Donyell Malen missed a big chance late on, shooting just wide after a poor defensive clearance.

Buendía Wins It at the Death

When it looked like the match was heading for a draw, Villa found a way. After a crowded goalmouth scramble, Buendía stayed calm and placed his shot into the net in the final seconds. Emery sprinted down the touchline in celebration.

It was a dramatic ending that delivers a major warning to Arsenal, a team with history of losing momentum in title races.
