PSG Under Pressure as Lyon Aim to Shock Champions
A Heavyweight Clash After European Heartbreak
Two of France’s biggest clubs meet on Sunday at Groupama Stadium as Lyon host Paris Saint-Germain. Both teams are hurting after European defeats and both are desperate to bounce back in Ligue 1.
PSG fell to Bayern Munich in midweek in a dramatic Champions League clash. Former Liverpool star Luis Diaz scored twice for Bayern before being sent off, leaving Joao Neves’s strike as nothing more than consolation in a 2-1 defeat. The result ended PSG’s perfect European record and may also cost them first place in Ligue 1, where they are just two points ahead of Marseille and Lens.
Last weekend, PSG barely scraped past Nice 1-0 thanks to a last-minute goal from Goncalo Ramos. Luis Enrique’s men are unbeaten in six league matches and have the best away record in France, though their only domestic loss this season came against Marseille.

Lyon Strong at Home but Struggling for Form
Lyon, currently sixth, will move within one point of PSG if they win. They have been outstanding at home, winning six of their seven games at Groupama Stadium this season. The only exception was a 2-1 defeat to Toulouse.
However, Paulo Fonseca’s side have failed to win their last three matches in all competitions. They were beaten 2-0 by Real Betis in the Europa League after a goalless draw at Brest. The team has struggled to find the net recently, going two straight matches without scoring.
Lyon have scored in each of their last six meetings with PSG, but five of those games ended in defeat. Their last home win over the champions came back in 2019.

Injuries and Suspensions Could Decide the Match
PSG are dealing with several injuries. Ousmane Dembele and Achraf Hakimi are both sidelined, while Nuno Mendes and Desire Doue are also out. Illia Zabarnyi returns from a Champions League ban and is expected to start.
Lyon are missing defenders Abner and Hans Hateboer through suspension. Ainsley Maitland-Niles will likely fill in on the right, and Nicolas Tagliafico will play on the left. Ernest Nuamah, Malick Fofana, and Orel Mangala are all injured and unavailable.
Prediction
Lyon will be motivated and dangerous at home, but PSG’s quality and experience should shine through. With two extra days of rest and a full-strength midfield, Luis Enrique’s team are expected to take control.
