Huddersfield Fight Hard, But City Too Strong
Huddersfield Town may not have pulled off the shock of the century, but they walked away with pride after pushing Manchester City harder than many expected. The Terriers, celebrating 100 years since their famous hat-trick of league titles, gave everything against one of the best sides in Europe.
Foden the Star of the Show
From the first whistle, Phil Foden looked like he was playing on a different level. The No. 47 opened the scoring with a sharp finish after linking beautifully with youngster Divine Mukasa. Later in the second half, Foden turned provider, slipping a perfect ball through to Savinho, who smashed his shot in off the post to seal the win.
Foden controlled the game with effortless confidence. He popped up everywhere — spraying passes to Oscar Bobb on the wing, firing corners into the box, and racing back to help defend when needed. Guardiola later called him “a real threat” and hinted that Foden is back to his very best.

Huddersfield Refuse to Fold
Credit to Lee Grant’s side. They had already knocked out Leicester and Sunderland on penalties, and even against City’s star names, they pressed high and kept believing. Zépiqueno Redmond and Ben Wiles both tested City’s defense, while late on Cameron Ashia came inches away from a fairytale goal when his strike rattled the post.
The home fans roared every time Huddersfield pushed forward, and by the final whistle they were on their feet applauding a brave performance.
Pep Keeps It Cool
Pep Guardiola made nine changes from the weekend, resting most of his stars but still sending out a side packed with talent. Youngster Mukasa impressed on debut, while James Trafford enjoyed his first start in goal since the summer.
Asked about the scoreline, Guardiola shrugged: “Did you expect 10-0? Football doesn’t work like that. These games are always tough.” He praised Huddersfield’s fight and made it clear his team will continue to take the competition seriously.
Kalvin Phillips even got a late cameo, stepping on to boos from the home crowd due to his Leeds past. But the bigger story was Foden’s brilliance and City’s calm control.

What’s Next?
City now move into the fourth round where Swansea awaits, while Huddersfield can hold their heads high after giving the holders a scare. For Guardiola, the focus quickly turns back to the league. For Foden, the message is clear: he’s ready to lead City’s charge this season.
